Mr. Wernick has been heard in the sections, often in the role of principal trumpet with many of the leading community orchestras in New York City. The list of community and professional ensembles he has performed with is massive. To date, he has played at least one concert with: The Marion Symphony (Indiana), The Lafayette Symphony (Indiana), The Chelsea Symphony, The Greenwich Village Orchestra, The Summit Symphony, The New Amsterdam Symphony, The Riverside Orchestra, Broadway-Bach Ensemble, The Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, The Goldman Band, The Gramercy Brass, The Doctors Orchestra, The Brooklyn Symphony, The Westchester Opera, The Academy Brass, The New York Chamber Orchestra, The Mannes Community Orchestra. He has made solo performances of the works of Tartini, Telemann, Schubert, and Mozart.

Mr. Wernick, who hails from New York, studied trumpet performance at the Juilliard School with the former principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, the late William Vachianno, and with Mark Gould, former co-principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera, he was awarded a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance. He spent his summers at various prestigious music festivals: The Empire Brass Quintet Symposium, The Tanglewood Music Center, The Waterloo Music Festival (Gerard Schwarz, conductor), The Aspen Music Festival, The Yale Norfolk Summer Chamber Music Festival, BANFF Summer Music Festival. During this time, he studied with some of the best teachers or coaches in the field at the time. In 1980, he went on to the Juilliard for his bachelor's Degree in Trumpet Performance. He studied with Roger Voisin, Armando Ghitalla, Lous Ranger, Chris Gekker, Philip Smith, Charles Schlueter, Robert Nagel, Rolf Smedvig, and many others.

Mr. Wernick is also a noted arranger and published composer. Many of his works, mainly for winds and brass, have been performed worldwide to critical acclaim. His Trio for Oboe, Horn, and Piano (1992) was commissioned by Lisa Kozenko and the Hancock Chamber players and premiered in 1994. It was subsequently published by International Opus, which prompted recording by The Wild Basin Winds of Austin, Texas. Recently his Five Movements for Brass Septet (2006) and his Brass Quartet No. 2 "Uh-oh" (1984, rev. 2017) were premiered at the Festival for Contemporary Music at Ball State University, where he is an Instructor of Music Theory and Composition. As a conductor, he is incredibly proud of his work with The WW Ensemble, a woodwind ensemble dedicated to presenting new and rarely played music for that combination of instruments.
